Take Action
Beyond Welfare: Priority Issues for Affirmative Options

Affirmative Options will explore, develop policy recommendations, educate the public and policy makers and mobilize members to act on policies that support:

  1. A welfare program that is effective at helping very low income parents get and keep work that moves them and their children out of poverty.
  2. An economic infrastructure that could put the welfare program out of business: By making work pay: adequate wages, tax credits for working families, and access to training and education;
  • By making work possible: child care, health care coverage, and transportation; and
  • By preventing destitution when work is not a real possibility: a safety net for the disabled, for children and the unemployed.

At critical points during the legislative session, Affirmative Options staff will send out Action Alerts and Issue Briefs to the organizations and individuals on our email list. Action Alerts provide concrete information and an action that will make a difference. Issue Briefs provide information for our members about issues Affirmative Options will act on during the legislative session.
