Minnesota's Safety Net and Work Supports: In Sorry Shape When We Need Them Most Print E-mail

Like the rest of the nation, Minnesotans are losing jobs and others are forced to trade full-time work for part-time work.  Many who are still working are losing health care coverage.  Others have lost their homes to foreclosure.  As the number of Minnesotans in crisis grows, we find that Minnesota has allowed its safety net to unravel for much of the last decade.  The damage has been done by budget cuts and budget gimmicks, by allowing assistance amounts to stagnate, and by allowing complex rules to overtake effective assistance.

Ending Poverty. It's Time

Poverty is too little money to cover basic and fundamental needs. The solutions must be ones that make it possible for Minnesotans to:
  • Increase their incomes
  • ccumulate and hold onto assets
  • Afford basic needs through a fair marketplace
Our Coalition explores policy options that affirm our state’s core values: Work, Opportunity, Fair play, Compassion, and Community. We can build on a legacy of introducing the nation to effective and innovative solutions to end poverty. It's possible. It's time.
